I met Pete Nice when I moved to Alabama in 1995.

I started playing my fretless Fender bass

on Pete's tunes.

There was a drummer, Kelly Simpson, whose style Pete admired.  Eventually the three of us got together.

​

It was magic right from the start. 

​

When we played our first bar gig all three of us arrived on stage at the beginning of the first set with a

Guinness Stout in hand.

​

Thus, theSTOUTS.

 

theSTOUTS weren't meant to last.  Pete and I had very young families to raise.

I moved back to Michigan in the year 2000.

 

But there was not a better band in all of America in the late 1990s.
