A Christmas Lullaby - 1994
00:00 / 02:57
LITTLE BABY
SHALL I TELL YOU THE GREATEST OF STORIES?
A STORY OF ANGELS
AND SHEPHERDS’ DELIGHT
THE STORY OF A BABY NO BIGGER THAN YOU ARE
WHO CAME TO THIS WORLD ON A COLD WINTER'S NIGHT
ONCE THERE WAS A KING
A MAN OF GREAT POWER
WHO CALLED FOR A CENSUS
A COUNTING OF MEN
CAUGHT UP IN THE STORM
WERE MARY AND JOSEPH
A WOMAN WITH CHILD AND A MAN
WITH A CHILD FOR ALL MEN
AND DADDY'S NOT A WISE MAN
TO TELL YOU ALL IT MEANS
BUT DADDY FEELS THEIR SPIRIT MOST
EACH TIME HE HOLDS HIS BABY CLOSE
SO BABY LET ME TELL YOU
THE GREATEST OF STORIES
AND REACH FOR THE SPIRIT
THE WONDER
THE LIGHT
THE STORY OF A BABY NO BIGGER THAN YOU ARE
WHO CAME TO THIS WORLD ON A COLD WINTER'S NIGHT
WORDS AND MUSIC

A Christmas Lullaby
It was December of 1994. The phone rang. It was my sister Dana, breathless. "I have a great idea for a Christmas song!"

And so she did. "A Christmas Lullaby" is mostly Dana's baby. She had the concept, and lots of the words and melody. I mostly just assembled the song as best I could, and then recorded it as best as I could.

Basically, she had the great idea and I did all the work.

That December of 1994 I was a genuine new Daddy with a genuine new Baby.
Much of my compositional input was conducted one handed at the piano with a five month old baby in the other arm.

I'd love to hear a different singer sing this thing. In fact, just now it occurs to me that it would be great to hear a woman sing this song.

Hmmmm.....
